Professional background
Professor of Research at the CSIC and Adjunct Professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) and Lulea Technological University.
The current scientific interest is the study of the geology and geochemistry of ore deposits and hydrothermal systems, with special emphasis in the exploration of metallic raw materials. Isotope geochemistry, geochronology, fluid inclusion studies and numerical modelling. I have worked in very different types of ore deposits, including skarns, other carbonate-hosted deposits, orogenic gold, magmatic-hosted Ni-Cu, IOCG and magnetite-apatite, volcanogenic and sediment-hosted massive sulphides and supergene enrichment. In the most recent times has worked in the relationships between the last two ones and microbiologic processes.
Professor of the SEG-SGA-UNESCO Latinamerican Metallogeny Course (2001-2017), master CODELCO-Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile), master courses (Universidad de Bahía Blanca, Argentina), program MECE3 of the Universidad de Chile and 23 monographic courses in Universities and International Meetings.
Participation in research projects and scientific expeditions to Chile, Perú, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, República Dominicana, Rusia, Turquía, Georgia, Armenia, Namibia, Australia, Ethiopia and Angola.
Participation in the organization of 43 meetings (SGA, Goldschmidt Conference, SEG, CGI, EAG), including field trips.
Past president of the Society for Geology applied to Mineral Deposits and recipient of the SGA-KGHM Kroll medal.
