Professional background
Miriam Gómez Paccard is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Geosciences (CSIC, UCM), where she leads the research line in Archaeomagnetism. Her work focuses on studying the past behavior of the geomagnetic field using paleomagnetic techniques applied to rocks and archaeological materials. Her multidisciplinary approach integrates data from various disciplines, such as geophysics, archaeology, geology, and archaeometry, allowing her to collaborate with researchers from different fields and countries with the aim of better understanding the evolution of the geomagnetic field and studying the impact of these changes on natural and human systems throughout history.
Throughout her career, she has published numerous research papers, with over 40 international publications in prestigious journals, and has led and participated in numerous national, international, and European projects, including several international cooperation projects. In addition to her research work, Miriam Gómez Paccard has supervised three doctoral theses, as well as various master’s and bachelor’s degree theses, contributing to the development of the new generation of scientists in her field. As part of her commitment to science outreach, she is (co)coordinator of the initiatives «Geosciences in the School» and «The Geoscientist of the Month», which promote scientific education in schools, and leads the Equality Commission at IGEO, promoting diversity and inclusion in Earth Sciences research.
